It’s not easy to pursue a creative endeavor.

It takes a lot of courage to put your heart and soul into an original piece of work. Deciding to express yourself through some type of creative outlet usually comes with at least a small amount of reluctance or hesitation.

Sharing your work with the world is an even greater monster.

Don’t let your fear paralyze you

I’ve always admired those that possess the ability to entertain, educate, and empower others with their own self-made content. It’s inspiring how much impact creators can have on the lives of others.

For this reason, I’ve always aspired to be a creator.

Unfortunately, I wasted so much time living in fear when I could have been creating.

I was too worried about getting things perfect from the beginning. I felt that if I wasn’t great from the start that I would be judged and criticized.

It took me a long time to realize I was missing the point. It’s not about trying to avoid judgment and criticism (which will always be present no matter how good your work is), it’s about enjoying the process and evolving as you take the journey towards becoming a creative.

Fear is a sign that you’re on the right path

I’ve found that my creative fears usually tend to manifest themselves in the form of procrastination. When I’m too afraid to share my work with the world, I usually distract myself by consuming content rather than creating my own. I find comfort in studying other creatives. However, comfort does not lead to growth.

I once heard that fear is a sign that you’re heading in the right direction. It’s an indicator that you’re doing what you’re supposed to be doing.

When it comes to creative work, I’ve learned to embrace fear. Insecurity and doubt only signify that you care about the work that you’re doing and that your creative attempts are worth pursuing.

“Are you paralyzed with fear? That’s a good sign. Fear is good. Like self-doubt, fear is an indicator. Fear tells us what we have to do.” — Steven Pressfield

If something scares you, it’s probably something that you’re destined to do.

After all, what you should really fear is the thought of never pursuing what you desire. Never taking the chance. Never discovering where your creative journey could take you.

If you want to succeed as a creative, embrace your fears.
