Most of us are living a lie.

We’re not being our true selves, but rather living in accordance with the expectations of others, subject to the roles that have been defined for us.

I once heard an interesting statement that suggested everybody has two versions of themselves. The first version is the role that you play in the world. The second version is who you secretly desire to be.

To give you an example, most of us associate our identities with our careers. You may be a lawyer or a doctor or a teacher or any other profession that gives you any specific title — could be anything. This is the role that you’re playing in the world and it’s a role that you’re playing for someone else.

This is the role that you’ve been assigned, and this role dictates how you act and present yourself.

We let this role define who we are, in most cases for our entire lives.

But this isn’t the real you.

The other version of you is your core identity. This is the person you really are deep inside. This version of you doesn’t care about money or the status quo, but instead cares about seeking true, valuable experiences in life.

The best thing you can do for yourself is break your external chains and tune into what you really desire from life. To…
