Everyone wants to change the world.

We all have big, insurmountable visions about how we could radically improve the course of humanity and transform society for the better.

But, it’s near impossible to change the world. Sure, you may be able to create some kind of impact during the course of your life, but chances are you won’t be the one to redefine history or change the face of our existence.

However, there is one thing that you are fully capable of changing: Yourself.

If you want to change the world, start with yourself first

The best way for you to change the world is to become the best person you can be.

Many people fixate on all the problems that exist. This causes frustration and anger with circumstances beyond their control. They believe if they can find a way to control these situations they will be happy.

But happiness comes from within, not from having power over external forces.

“Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself.” — Leo Tolstoy

Instead of dwelling on life’s problems, a better approach is to work on yourself so that outside conditions no longer affect you. Finding a higher level of consciousness and inner peace is the best way to overcome all the pain and struggle that you experience.

I like how John C. Maxwell put it, “Most people want to change the world to improve their lives, but the world they need to change first is the one inside themselves.”

Changing your perspective is the key to influence a better world

You’re far more likely to influence positive change when you yourself are in a good place.

Reaching a high level of awareness and enlightenment will have a rippling effect that will transcend, positively affecting the lives of others. That kind of influence will have a much greater impact in the world compared to what you alone would be able to accomplish by yourself.

“I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.” — Mother Teresa

If you want to change the world, start by changing yourself.
